How To Make Money Online By ReSelling ANYTHING!

Wondering How To Start A Side Hustle OR Looking for Online Money Ideas? The FASTEST & EASIEST way I’ve found to make money online is to Become a reseller! You need to learn How to Resell for a Side Hustle. Aka ReSelling, Flipping, Retail Arbitrage, etc… I started buying items at Goodwill and reselling them as an Amazon Seller, plus on eBay, and as a Poshmark ReSeller. 

FYI: Flipping and reselling items I bought at Goodwill is what allowed me to QUIT MY 9-5 JOB (my $ix FIGURE job where I worked for Bank of America Merrill Lynch) — And what led me to everything else!

Before I became Blogging Brandi I had learned How to make money online by reselling!

So if you’re like me and want a way to Make Money and Travel or better yet Make Money and RV then your first step should be to figure out How to Start a Reseller Business and find ways for How to Make Money as an Online Reseller: Clothing, Home Decor, Gifts, things you might already have laying around BUT you can make money selling almost anything especially Online! 

But Flipping and reselling items is only one of the ways I’ve been able to make money online. If you haven’t seen my story, you can check that out here since I’ve had multiple online business ideas.

What is Reselling?

Re-Selling Items a.k.a. Retail Arbitrage. Flipping and reselling refer to the practice of buying items at a lower price with the intention of selling them at a higher price, thereby making a profit. This activity can be applied to a wide range of products, including electronics, clothing, collectibles, furniture, and more. The individuals who engage in flipping and reselling are often referred to as “flippers” or “resellers.”

HOW I GOT STARTED RESELLING

But I was able to quit my job flipping items that I found at places like Goodwill, Walmart, Thrift Stores, Garage Sales, Target, you name it! Then, I went to auctions and then I would find things online and sell them. I sold both new and used items and also tested out returned items.

I cannot tell you how much money I have made selling magic kits, rain chains, horse jackets, tampons, pool filters, pet products, baby items, you name it. The more random the more money I make!

But, I really started liking new items. So I would physically get these pallets delivered to my condo in the city at the time and then take them upstairs and list them online to resell these items. I also, ventured out to get an office but that was a HUGE unnecessary EXPENSE! It sucked up a lot of my profit!

So I got rid of it and Then once I sold my condo, I would start finding these items online and sending them off to Amazon FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) or leaving them at my Mom’s house for her to mail for me, or I would start taking ’em with me in the RV, my car where ever I was going to be… So I would ship them from wherever I was located or I’d have somebody else ship them for me.

I’ve made money selling on many different platforms, but my favorites are Amazon and eBay, plus recently I added a closet on Poshmark. So I started listing clothing items, accessories, handbags, and pet products that are just sitting around not getting used! Most everything I have up for sale is new!

But, you can create your own closet, and start selling your things in a matter of minutes, plus get a bonus for signing up with my referral code “BloggingBrandi” and custom link!

Flipping and reselling items online, you can make a lot of money, but it does take time. And so that is one way that I have made money online. However, I make the most money when I find one product that I can buy multiples of! I will physically scan items with my phone while walking around the stores. Even NOW if I see something I think is a great buy I will scan it or do a quick Google search to see if it is worth my money and time!

WHAT DO YOU SELL?

ALMOST ANYTHING but HOT “Niches” Categories I love are:

  • Pets
  • Baby
  • Educational
  • Books*
  • Home & Kitchen
  • Exercise & Fitness
  • Sports & Outdoors
  • Novelty & Gimmicky Products

A FEW RULES I FOLLOW:

  • SMALL & LIGHT – Try to find items that are small and light. AVOID things that are HARD TO SHIP (i.e. Heavy / Bulky)
  • NON-PERISHABLE – You’ll want to AVOID things that EXPIRE or REQUIRE REFRIGERATION (i.e. food, pills, vitamins)
  • NON-BREAKABLE – You’ll want to AVOID things that can BREAK easily during shipping & handling (i.e. glass items, coffee mugs)
  • NO ADULT ONLY – STAY AWAY from “adult only” products that tend to be regulated & un-listable (i.e. adult toys, marijuana-related products)
  • NO SEASONAL Products – Don’t buy items that just went out of season unless you plan to hold on to them until next year! (i.e. Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, Summer, Winter, “dated items”, etc…)

THINK small, little space, easy to ship, something that you do not have to do yourself – there are tons of options to run your online reselling store without having to actually hold or even do any of the work other than buy the items and send them off to something like Amazon FBA to handle everything from there! So NO you do not have to actually carry these items around with you, although it’s not that hard to do if you follow my rules!


WHERE DO YOU FIND THESE ITEMS?

If you’re wanting to find products to sell, you could start by perusing local options:

  • Start At HOME: The best way to get started selling online is to look for items you already have around the house!  (new or used)
  • Gifts! YES I look at everything as DOLLAR SIGNS and since I’m a minimalist I sell some of my gifts! Sorry not sorry! I’d trade a physical item for an experience any day!
  • Retailers Clearance Isles / Sales (i.e. Walmart, Target, etc…)
  • Flea Markets
  • Thrift Stores / Discount / Dollar Stores (i.e. Goodwill, Big Lots, Other local stores)
  • Garage Sales
  • Auctions / Liquidations / Websites / Warehouses / Pallet Sales (ONLINE) Order items online and have shipped to me: Boxes or Pallets of inventory (or even drop off a truckload!!)

    • eBay lots: search https://www.ebay.com/ for the product or category you want to sell and add the word “lots” (i.e. “baby lots”)
  • Local “Warehouse Closeouts” and “Inventory Auctions”: You’ll have to search an area close to you and find one. This is one I use to go to: fr8auctions.com

In the beginning, I used to buy items one off and had 1000’s of SKUS (items for sale) until I figured out the power of numbers and having multiple of the same item. So I began buying items in BULK!

Inventory Tracking & Management

LAST BUT NOT LEAST be sure to Keep track of your inventory! You’ll want to keep track of things like:

  • Item Description
  • Unit Price
  • Unit Cost
  • Number of Units
  • Supplier
  • Category
  • SKU
  • EAN / UPC
  • Notes

You can do this with a spreadsheet which I recommend, but also with the help of an app on your phone! They make Inventory Management Phone Apps for both Apple & Android. (I personally have only used this Apple one and can even download a spreadsheet of my inventory in my app — they have free and paid versions: I usually can get by with the free 😉

Profitability Calculations

Make sure No matter what items you buy and choose to invest time into selling or even if they are free… you need to make a PROFIT for your time! If you’re going to sell an item and only make a few dollars that may be better being donated, gifted, or grouped with like items for a lot sale!

I use apps and have a spreadsheet to estimate what my profit will be after subtracting any other expenses like shipping, boxes, the cost of the item, listing fees, taxes, etc…
