✅ Cut down on groceries & buy generic brands
Wondering How To Save Money on Groceries? First, only buy the necessities so you can cut down on groceries you’re spending money on. Also, try to buy generic brands instead of brand names. Often they are made by the same manufacturer and relabeled for sale under different names. And, make a list! If you have a list of what you need to go get or better yet Order then you’re not tempted to buy anything else. Maybe even try setting a grocery budget if you haven’t yet!
✅ Cancel automatic subscriptions & memberships!
Omg 😱 all of those $2.99 and $9.99 TV, radio, and meal prep subscriptions add up! The only subscriptions I have are for my online business and generate income for me! One of the best ways to save money immediately is to review a list of all the subscriptions and memberships you pay for and cancel any NON-essential automatic subscriptions and memberships! Or even try pausing, suspending just trying to go a little while without it and see if you still feel like you need to be spending money on each one! 💰
✅ Cut ties with cable
If you want to save money each month then, Cut ties with cable. Because if you are still paying for cable — ummmm just stop! I don’t watch much TV especially if I’m in my RV but when I do it’s usually FREE. Even at the condo or in the van, at the Trailer park wherever I am I NEVER pay for cable! I usually only need Internet and I DO NOT PAY for things like Netflix, Peacock, Sling, Hulu, etc…
In case you’re wondering how I do watch TV (if and when I do) it’s usually through an Antenna via the free channels in the Air. Or sometimes I have access to “Shared Spaces” maybe even a hotel, AirBnb, Lounge, common area at the campground, a family member, or a friend’s house — you name it that’s typically where I’ll catch up on some of those things. Plus, FYI you can find almost access to anything you REALLY want to see for free or at a discount on the Interenet with a little searching around to save money online!
✅ Spend extra or unexpected income wisely.
What do you do with any extra you make? Also, What did you do with all that GOVERNMENT MONEY? (Aka your “Stimulus Check”). What about your Taxes and any refunds you might have received? I save and invest ALL of my money in diverse ways! Be sure that you are spending any extra or unexpected income wisely. Otherwise, that money can leave faster than you received it!
✅ Reduce energy costs.
After Living in an RV you get to learn detailed costs about your Utilities cost and consumption for things like electricity, water, sewer, trash, etc…
I’m always looking for ways to save money, especially on my electric bill. You would be surprised how investing in small fixes can pay off BIG time in the long run!
Like how in my RV I keep “REflectix” in all the windows to keep the heat out and the cool air in especially in the summer. But it also helps to maintain the heat and Reduce energy costs during the winter months and fridge temps.
But, at the condo a or even a house a small little fix like a draft door stopper can make a HUGE Difference for wind, plus the noise, while also saving on the electric bill since the Air Conditioner or Heat doesn’t have to keep constantly coming on to maintain the temperature.
✅ Unsubscribe from emails.
How many times do you just hit delete but never unsubscribe from all of those emails you get in your inbox? Stop being distracted or even worse tempted by unnecessary emails! And don’t check them 24/7! Unsubscribe from emails, Set up filters, and automate your life! If you never see it you probably won’t miss it or even think twice! Not to mention you definitely won’t be spending money on it and instead, you’d be saving money by hitting “Unsubscribe” on all those emails!
✅ Check Your Insurance Rates.
You should review your insurance rates EVERY YEAR! This goes for your RV, car, house, health, etc… always do an annual review of your policies both coverage and cost. Usually, there are ways to save by upgrading, downgrading, or eliminating items but you won’t know unless you check on the regular. Plus by Check your insurance rates you’ll know about any new, old, or outdated info before it’s too late! 🙌
✅ Pack lunch or eat at home
One of the drawbacks of traveling all the time especially when living in the RV is wanting to try all the new foods you find! Even at work, school, events whatever, try to bring your own food and drinks with you! You can even make it an event! But try to save money by Packing your lunch and eating at home or in the RV, your Airbnb, at work, in your hotel room, wherever you might be! 🏡
✅ Save money automatically!
Do you have a savings account, investments, or even an emergency fund? Please tell me you at least have a checking account set up? There are tons of ways you can save money automatically every time you get paid or spend money (i.e. round ups, rewards, )! Sign up or set up programs to Save money automatically on auto-pilot or else you might forget! Out of sight out of mind! But, before you know if you will look at your account and notice all those savings add up BIG!
✅ Ask about discounts & pay in cash
No matter where you are always try to find a discount code, coupon, Groupon, AAA Club member, Military, Senior Citizen, — some kind of discount! Always Look for and Ask about discounts. Plus, pay in cash)! Sometimes paying in cash is a discount in itself. Either the establishment offers you a discount (aka NOT a fee instead) to pay in cash. OR by paying in cash you’re not using Credit so you’re saving in terms of interest rates, fees, and more there.
Ask for Discounts and pay in cash when you can! This goes for RV parks, hotels, restaurants, bills, products, services, and so much more! If you don’t ask, you won’t know! Plus most businesses will not volunteer to give you money !💰 😂
✅ Take advantage of your retirement savings plans.
If you don’t already contribute the MAX to your 401k that your employer matches then you are losing out on FREE MONEY! There are also tons of options for saving money on taxes if you know how to plan your retirement funds accordingly! Even for self-employed entrepreneurs! But, either way, be sure to take advantage of your retirement savings plans as a way to save money as well!
✅ Lower your cell phone bill.
This goes back to checking your accounts regularly but I wanted to mention this directly — re-review your cell phone bill and plan annually to make sure you’re getting the most of your money! They’re always updating and phasing out plans and changing prices! You might be paying more for less! Lower your cell phone bill or at least get what you pay for by updating, upgrading or maybe even downgrading your cell phone plan to save money!
✅ Try a spending freeze.
Don’t buy any nonessential items for a week—or even a month! And saying “NO” to anything that is NOT a basic necessity to eat, sleep, or breathe. aka Life or Death! Trying a spending freeze will help teach you what you can live with and without. Save money by only spending money on your NEEDS and Necessities vs what you WANT! 😮
✅ DIY . . . everything!
Usually, the cost of materials and a simple Google or YouTube search will save you a ton of money on your latest home project. and, when you need to do some DIY work (or any kind of work), borrow what you need from a friend or neighbor instead of going out and buying it. So, DIY . . . everything that you can!
✅ Skip the coffee shop.
I’m guilty too! But hey all those coffee cup stops add up! So try Skipping the coffee shop and brew a cup at home! This will save money BIG time. BUT, if you do have to hit the coffee shops on the road, be sure to use your Apps and any rewards programs to save money when you’re forced to spend it!
✅ Sell everything (that doesn’t bring you joy)!
Seriously if you haven’t used it in 3-6 months, don’t need it! Think about how someone else could benefit from those items you just have hanging or lying around! There is someone else out there who could use it or benefit from it more. so if you have not, or probably will NEVER use then get rid of it!
Take an inventory of the items you have! Keep the essential items you need, then make a pile to Sell, Donate, or Trash the rest! Once you see the in your bank account you won’t care about all that “stuff” anymore!
Plus this will free up space and give you money to contribute to other things! If you want to SAVE money, start to Sell everything that doesn’t bring you joy!
✅ Say goodbye to debt.
Monthly debt payments are the biggest money suck when it comes to saving money! Say goodbye to debt to take an inventory of all the debt you have! Keep a list, write it down, and make a plan to eliminate or start to at least pay down your debt. At least make sure you are making all of the minimum payments even if it feels like you’ll never pay them off. There are ways to speed up the process of paying off your debt like finding ways to lower your interest rates!
✅ Reduce interest rates
Reduce interest rates on existing debt, credit cards, loans, etc by calling on credit cards and asking them “Hey can you reduce this” Or you can refinance loans for things like your mortgages, car loans, RV Loans, and more to help reduce interest rates. Also, moving high-interest credit card debt to lower interest-rate-bearing credit cards or finding 0% interest rate credit card options, loans, etc… will all help you reduce interest rates, save money, and Say goodbye to debt!
✅ Return or get refunds
I cannot tell you how many people I know who never Return items or get refunds on items they buy and own. It’s crazy to see a closet full of clothes will all the tags still on them. Or gifts that maybe they didn’t like end up collecting dust, instead of taking time to exchange them for something they NEED or will use! Better yet getting money back aka as a refund for the unwanted items! Be sure to return items and get a refund immediately so you don’t end up stuck spending money on any of those items. Plus this way you’ll be saving money instead!
✅ Buy in bulk
Always buy in bulk if it makes sense and will save you money! But, NOT if you don’t have space, or will have to PAY to store it, lug it around (aka in your RV for the extra Gas) etc… Like o said “IF it makes sense” and it actually saves you money then buy in bulk. But, keep in mind just because you can buy in bulk doesn’t not mean you’re always “saving money” or getting the best deal, so be sure to do your own research and calculations!
✅ Download Coupons and Apps!
Almost every store offers an email list, app, or some type of what to earn rewards, get a discount, etc… for being a valued customer of their store! Be sure to download coupons and mobile apps to score BIG savings on places you might not think of including: McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Dollar General, Family Dollar, and more. Plus there are apps like ibotta that allow you to scan your receipts and make money! Also, always check for items you’re already buying, Gas, Coffee, the list is endless!
✅ Shop at the dollar & discount stores!
I can’t tell you how much I buy at the dollar, discount, and thrift stores! I am a thrifter and I LOVE Goodwill. In fact, if you do not know my story, I quit my job by shopping at Goodwill to buy items and ReSell them online! ReSelling allowed me to quit my job! But, I’m always looking for a discount which I find at the discount stores instead of heading straight to Amazon, Walmart, Target, and the BIG department brands to buy in-store or online.
✅ Barter!
Bartering is a great way to save money. Trade items locally or even services online! i.e. clothes, animal products, household goods, etc… A quick look at Facebook Marketplace and you will find tons of goods and services listed with people saying Pay me OR “Will trade for” XYZ! Maybe even start with your own friends and family to exchange items or provide service to each other in order to save money! (i.e. babysitting, grass cutting, hair cutting, the list goes on…)
✅ Simply Your Life
Taking time to sit down, look at, review, and re-evaluate your life is essential for saving money too! Sometimes we tend to operate in a vacuum, never stopping to SEE what all is really going on! Simply your life, your systems, your services, sit down and do an audit of what all you are spending money on! Where is your money going? etc…
Okay now you know ways to save money, so I want you to leave a comment below and let me know which one was your favorite or if you have one I should add to my list!
